Description of Polished Concrete

Polished concrete is a process and begins with grinding off the creamy surface. Diamond tooling is used for grinding and usually 3 or 4 steps are required to transform a troweled finish to a finely ground surface and along the way any patching that is required is done. At this point a densifier is applied, this will help as a sealer and add surface strength to the concrete. Next are the polishing steps, between 4 and 7 steps are required depending on the desired look. Every step will leave behind a scratch pattern in the floor, and this is why so many steps are needed continually remove the scratch from the previous step until a scratch free surface is achieved. Now that the concrete is polished, 2 coats of polish guard or sealer are applied, this will give a more consistent finish and help protect the surface.
